Jesus A. Reina
I received my education in mass communication at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV), where I developed the skills required to become a professional in public relations, digital marketing, content creation, relationship management, and social media management.
In addition to my studies, I gained valuable experience outside the classroom in leadership, networking, and adaptability. I used my marketing and photography skills in various roles, both in the public and private sectors, including as a federal and state employee, in corporate positions, and at privately owned businesses.
But on campus, I formed friendships with people from my community.
One of the people I formed a close friendship with was a talented musician and one of the most genuine people I had ever met. I will not share his name to respect his privacy and that of his family. But we were roommates for a few months while we were both studying at UTRGV until he graduated with a music degree and returned to Mexico to be with his family.
We didn't often talk after he left, but when we did, it was as if we had never stopped talking. He shared with me his aspirations of pursuing a graduate degree in Canada, but unfortunately, my friend passed away due to COVID-19 complications in late 2021.
My friend possessed talent, aspirations, and dreams and deserved the best life had to offer.
My friend had a profound positive impact on me during the brief time we spent with each other, and I was deeply saddened when I learned of his passing.
He inspired me to take pride in my Hispanic heritage, and he is the reason I try to share my talents as a photographer with as many people as possible.
I regret to say that despite being close friends, I cannot find a single photograph of him in my collection of all the photos I have ever taken with my camera.
We had planned to take his graduation photographs about a year after he graduated at his home in the Yucatán Peninsula.
But unfortunately, when I visited Cancún, I did not get to see him, and the photo shoot never took place.
That is why now, I do every graduation photo shoot I can for people I meet, no matter their budget because the memory of that accomplishment holds great significance to me.
I contribute to my community as a photographer, but that is not my only talent.
Just as my friend was a musician who sang beautifully, I am a copywriter who can share positive and impactful stories.
Stories that evoke emotions and resonate with people.
Stories about people who strive to better themselves and want to help others improve their lives.
Remarkable, interesting, and talented people that deserve to be recognized and known by more people, just like my friend.
I miss him dearly and realize now that I should have done more to promote his music and support his talents.
I have learned from my past mistakes and won't repeat them. I'm here to do all I can while I can to support and promote the talents of others.
One of the most exciting things about writing is how there are a thousand ways to pivot a story to serve a greater purpose.
I possess strong writing skills but was hesitant to commit to an ongoing blog project due to a lack of time or desire to dedicate time.
However, since graduating from UTRGV in 2021, I regret not prioritizing my writing.
My aim for 2023 is to consistently share stories about interesting topics or remarkable people and their journeys through a weekly blog.
I aim to publish at least one story each week that highlights positivity or something intriguing that more people should know about.
As a photographer, I help document events as they unfold. But as a public relations practitioner, I strive to present those stories in a way that aligns with my client's desired narrative while remaining factual.
A personal brand encompasses not only appearance but also a combination of visual elements, media engagement, digital marketing, and strategic positioning.
My goal is to assist individuals and organizations in achieving the recognition they deserve by presenting them in the best possible light through my photography.
I may not be in the images, but I always pour my heart into every aspect of my art.
Public relations writing involves communication to establish and strengthen favorable relationships with the public. This encompasses a range of activities, including writing press releases, speeches, and social media posts that aim to maintain a positive image of the company.
A creative strategy outlines how visual elements will be developed to promote a brand, product, or service over time. It determines the theme, style, and overall aesthetic of all related materials. A creative strategy should align with the overall business strategy, guiding all work toward specific goals, eliciting particular responses, and fostering consistent behavior.
The study of communication involves identifying, examining, and evaluating the various elements influencing communication in any form and subject. This may be approached from a theoretical viewpoint or focus on experimental methods.
Employ a targeted promotion strategy to influence a specific audience's knowledge, attitudes, behavior, or policies using marketing and advertising tactics.
The art of conveying a story using various media forms, such as text, audio, and video, to reach new audiences and explore possibilities for storytelling. Effective use of each medium requires consideration of each form's unique strengths and distinct advantages and must be employed deliberately.
The practice of using visual elements to convey a message, create impact, inspire change, or evoke an emotional response. It encompasses designing messages that educate, motivate, and engage the audience.
